Pelican Design was formed in 1984 based on a commitment to make significant contributions to the comfort, health and productivity of people in the workplace with innovative things.

Our size means we can give senior level attention to all projects, at all times. We feel that a great design doesn't have to do more than its job, only exactly what’s necessary.

We work with our clients to achieve a successful product balance of  engineering, ergonomics, comfort, appearance, cost, and customer
expectations.

Good product design is about understanding the problem, seeing the opportunities, and interpreting the seemingly obvious from a different perspective.

On the ground, the pelican wins no beauty prize. Bulky and squat, it waddles awkwardly about with its enormous beak pointing down. Takeoff hardly improves its dignity. It flaps its wings through a wide arc and hops about wildly in a noisy attempt to launch itself.

Once airborne the pelican becomes a different creature, a bird of grace, no longer grotesque. Even the ponderous bill which is so crucial to the pelican’s survival cannot mar the inexpressible beauty.

In flight, the pelican’s only rival is the eagle. No bird manages to outperform the pelican in locating and catching its prey. From as high as 60 or 70 feet up, it dives into the water and flies back into the air with fish in beak.

Just as a pelican seems unsettled when it begins to fly, so are the uncertainties of what ideas will best fit a new product in the beginning. Our challenge is to work towards the goal of  bringing new insight in shaping  ideas, turning uncertainties into a competitive advantage.

When the product is finally launched it becomes a winged form like the pelican; its function, beauty and impact is limitless.
